My Photography Style

I thought it was about time I did a blog post on my style of photography that I offer to all wedding clients.

I’m sure followers of my Facebook page and of this blog already know what to expect if and when they book me, but new friends may want to know a little more.

I offer my services as a wedding and family photographer – I love capturing special moments that people will treasure forever and it blows my mind that it’s my work that people will look at for generations to come!

What you will get from me is a natural, relaxed style of photography – I won’t force you or other people to pose in uncomfortable ways but rather gently direct you towards the best light, surroundings and general poses and then let you find your own movements and poses.

Natural, relaxed people in front of the camera make amazing photographs – forced smiles, tense bodies do not.

I love to be able to capture the ‘in-between’ moments in poses as that’s where your natural smile, the look in your eyes and the reactions between you and your partner become most magical. If you are in the photograph alone it’s your reactions to the camera and with me that make the photograph special.

That’s why before the wedding or the family shoot I like to speak with you, visit you and hold consultations to get to know you and more importantly, you get to know me as a person not just as ‘the photographer’ – this means you hopefully become more comfortable with me when I’m working.

Natural and relaxed wedding photography

My contemporary, reportage style of photography means I can capture the moments that most people miss – the hugs outside between family members, tears at the speeches, dads dancing and kids making the funniest faces!

It’s these shots mixed in with the more traditional group and family photographs that make your wedding album really special.

My editing style is as natural as possible. I love clean, natural photography and my editing processes reflect this. I try not to do too much to the photographs as the photographs I take throughout the day should be as clean, clear and as beautiful as possible.

I won’t make the sky that blue that it looks like you were in California when you were actually in Manchester and the clouds that white that it looks like you were in Jamaica when you were actually in Sheffield on a rainy day.

If the sky is blue and the clouds were white on the day then they will look natural and beautiful, not over processed and quite frankly downright ugly. If the sky is the focus of the photographs on your wedding day, then I haven’t done my job properly.

If you want beautiful, timeless and natural photography and end results then I will provide that every single time.

If you like the unnatural and over processed look then I am unfortunately not the photographer for you.

This is the main reason I suggest you look over my style, my finished albums and the samples I have so that you can be confident my style matches the end result you want from your wedding photography. If you have already contacted me, the chances are you already like my style but I will still recommend that you look over my work. 🙂

I like to mix colour photographs and black and white photographs and if it works, I will edit the photographs in colour and in black and white so you can decide which you prefer. Personally, I adore black and white photographs, but I know not everyone does and not every photograph works that way – so some on your presentation discs may have colour photographs and black and white photographs – others may just be in colour or just in black and white.

I use my creative knowledge and eye to determine which works and which doesn’t. Some photographs work really well in black and white with a colour injection, however, this is not something I will do in all photographs, just in a select few. If you see a photograph and would like this effect adding to them, I will gladly do it for you.

It’s the natural moments I capture that will make you really feel the emotions of the day again and again. I want you to look through your wedding album and relive those magical moment you remember and see the moments you may have missed at the time. I think it’s one of the only jobs in the world where I can say I want to make you cry – obviously not a sadistic way, but in a happy, joy filled way! 🙂

It’s quite intimate being a wedding photographer, especially as I’m there all day on the most special day of your lives. I am honoured when I’m chosen to capture those magical moments and I take my job very seriously. I love my job as it’s not just my job but my lifelong passion. My passion to capture your amazing day shows in my work – my work is the long lasting look back on your magical wedding day. I will let you relive your wedding day in a timeless, beautiful way.
